As part of its capacity-building initiatives in the Muslim world which explore, develop, and utilize Muslim resources for peace-building and conflict resolution, the Salam Institute partnered with the Conflict Resolution Unit of Clingendael Institute and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct a large-scale and comprehensive analysis of key Islamic Peacebuilding Actors in Africa and the Balkans.
More specifically, this project highlighted those key religious actors currently engaged in peace-building, focusing on the kinds of peace-building activities they carry out, and evaluating how their actions contribute to the overall conflict resolution and peace-building process. These findings inform donors, such as Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on whether and how to strengthen the peace-building capacities of religious actors included in this study. The gathered information was made available in November 2005 to other peace-building organizations and other donors interested in approaching or linking with organizations included in this study.
As part of its larger effort to provide a comprehensive resource and network of Islamic peacebuilders, the Salam Institute has also integrated these actors and organizations into the larger Muslim Peacebuilding Network.
